The Nature of Becoming

About this event

An Exploration of Art, Perception, and Evolution

Featuring Sam Chapman, Sheri TenEyck, Lisa Dailey, Carol Berry and Nanci Price Scoular

What happens when one work of art changes how we see the next?

Inspired by philosopher Henri Bergson’s ideas about change, intuition and continuous evolution, The Nature of Becoming brings together five artists working across painting, fiber, mixed media and glass.

The exhibition is arranged as a visual journey through the gallery, inviting visitors to follow their curiosity and notice how their own perceptions develop along the way. Familiar forms shift, materials transform, patterns emerge and perspectives change.

There is no single interpretation to discover. Instead, The Nature of Becoming asks us to recognize that our interpretations are not fixed. What we see and understand may evolve through every new encounter.

“For a conscious being, to exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly.”

— Henri Bergson, Creative Evolution (1907)
