About this event

This is a condensed introduction to botanical art, designed to give the participants a taste of the processes used to create an accurate rendering of a plant or flower. The workshop will alternate between explanations and demonstrations with independent work time.

The workshop begins with the classic “how to draw a leaf” exercise by learning how to measure and then draw these two-dimensional plant subjects. There will also be an optional “brown bag” botanical art talk about working with color during the lunch break.

In the afternoon Linda Ann will demonstrate ways to draw flowers using guidelines, followed by participants working on drawing flowers. Then a demonstration on the basics of watercolor. Participants may continue with any of the workshop exercises through the end of the day with a friendly “critique”, where each participant shows the work they have done, and shares one thing that works about their art, and one thing that didn’t work.

The cost is $70 in advance.

Linda Ann will also be presenting on the topic 'Why Plant Names Change" as our program speaker on Wednesday the 11th, the following day.
