About this event

Join author Kathleen Glassburn for an inside look at how stories begin. Using one selection from her collection Where Do Stories Come From? , Kathleen will share the real spark behind the tale and walk through the creative steps that shaped it into finished fiction. Her approach applies equally well to memoir and essays, offering writers a practical way to turn a single moment, memory, or image into narrative discovery.

Kathleen brings decades of experience to this conversation. She holds a BA in English from the University of Washington and an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles, along with additional certificates in nonfiction and children’s writing. Her work includes nearly fifty published short stories, the novella Santa Fe Trilogy , the novel Making It Work , and two story collections, Where Do Stories Come From? and Hummingbirds . She is Managing Editor of The Writer’s Workshop Review .

Attendees will receive a printed handout of the featured story and its inspiration, and there will be time for questions about craft, creativity, and the writing life. Whether you’re a writer seeking motivation or a reader curious about how stories evolve, this session offers an engaging glimpse into how imagination and experience intertwine.
