COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new park called Storybrook Park in Birchwood opened on Feb. 6 using Greenways Levy funds; city officials will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2927 Maplewood Ave on Feb. 13 + the seven-acre park features a playground, trails, a forest loop, and an art installation.  KAFE
  • Whatcom County Dairy Women is inviting young women to compete for the Dairy Ambassador title on March 21 at Lynden Heritage Museum — the contest will crown the county's 70th Dairy Ambassador.  Lynden Tribune
  • Bellingham’s overnight severe weather shelter on North Forest Street was open yesterday and is available today with check-in from 4 to 8 p.m. — the Lighthouse Mission Drop-In Center will serve as a daytime warming shelter tomorrow and Thursday, and Ferndale’s shelter remains open Tuesday through Saturday night.  KAFE

CULTURE NEWS

  • 4-H and FFA members in Lynden are preparing behind the scenes for the upcoming Northwest Washington Fair as early planning in February sets the stage for dairy barn displays and prize-winning cattle. Their work offers fairgoers a rare glimpse of what goes into the event.  Lynden Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A court hearing on April 21 will decide if the May 1 deadline for filing water adjudication claims in Whatcom County is extended after officials said over 25% of water users have not received forms — mixed mail and newspaper notices have caused confusion.  KAFE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bellingham announced the World Cup Fan Zone locations on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Trackside Beer Garden (at Kulshan Brewing on the waterfront) will show matches along with The Den on Commercial Street, and 15 local businesses and eight organizations will host soccer-themed events from June 11 through July 19.  KAFE
  • Bellingham announced 2026 World Cup Fan Zone sites, including Trackside Beer Garden on the waterfront and The Den hosting a Block Watch Party on Commercial Street—15 local businesses and eight nonprofits will offer game viewings and soccer-themed events during the tournament from June 11 to July 19.  KISM
