  • Amtrak announced plans for the new Airo Fleet to boost comfort and capacity along the Cascades route. The eight trainsets will be built by year-end and roll into service in 2027.  KISM

  • The Lynden Heritage Museum celebrated its 50th anniversary yesterday by showcasing displays that trace its start with Fred K. Polinder’s donation of horse-drawn buggies + archived images that highlight its evolving role in preserving local history.  Lynden Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lynden School Board & Superintendent David VanderYacht will discuss a $25.5M capital levy to fix facility needs, with the proposal set to be voted on in a special election on April 28.  Lynden Tribune
  • Mount Baker School District is investigating student misconduct at Harmony Elementary where principal Todd Matthews is on leave + the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office began its inquiry on Jan. 22, focusing solely on student behavior and district response without involving staff.  KISM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Whatcom County council voted unanimously on Tuesday to raise the permit threshold for outdoor music events from 1,000 to 2,000 attendees and added a five-hour minimum duration requirement; organizers expect the change to lower costs and simplify planning for smaller festivals+.  KAFE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bellingham girls won 70-26 over Marysville-Pilchuck in the 2A district play-in and will face Lynden tomorrow in the quarterfinals at home.  KISM
