- ➤ Bellingham’s overnight shelter on N. Forest Street will reopen Saturday through Wednesday, Feb. 18, with check-in from 4 to 8 p.m. as temperatures drop below freezing; the daytime shelter at the old Lighthouse Mission will operate Sunday through Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.+ additional local services remain available. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Over 27 healthcare workers in Whatcom County have been affected by PeaceHealth's mass layoffs announced on Feb. 11—26 in Bellingham—with job cuts set to take effect on April 12 as unions may influence the final count. KISM
- ➤ PeaceHealth filed a notice on Feb. 11 to cut 94 positions on Apr. 12 — including 26 in Bellingham, 7 in Sedro-Woolley, and 1 in Lynden — marking its second round of layoffs in four months that affects local caregivers such as mental health therapists and a nursing director. KAFE

- ➤ The Lynden School Board postponed its Feb. 12 meeting due to a lack of quorum and rescheduled it for Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in Lynden. Lynden Tribune

- ➤ City Hall now displays a new lobby sign (reading welcome in 13 languages) inviting community members to its inclusive center. - ➤ Valentine’s Day events are happening this weekend, including Cupid’s Island improv at The Upfront Theatre (until Feb. 21) and Single Mingle Trivia at Roosevelt Taproom at Kulshan Brewing on the 13th.
