- ➤ Viola Patten, a Lynden High School senior, has her illustration 'Life’s Fruition' chosen as the cover art for the 19th annual Whatcomics published in January by the Whatcom County Library System. She was honored on Jan. 10 at Lynden Library when local young artists were celebrated. Lynden Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Nooksack Valley School Board heard elementary school principals present new improvement plans for boosting learning during their meeting. Principals Katie Brown, Kevin DeVere and Sarah Condreay outlined efforts at Nooksack, Everson and Sumas schools. Lynden Tribune
- ➤ After three failed attempts at a capital facilities bond, Lynden School District is asking voters to support a $25.5M Facilities, Safety and Technology Levy on April 28. The board voted unanimously (Feb. 19) to send the measure to a special election. Lynden Tribune
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ An NSF-funded study led by UW and WWU is examining if the Nooksack River will change course during heavy floods, and local officials along with tribal, state, and federal representatives are meeting weekly to refine water protection plans (the study will continue for four years) following last year’s flooding.
