COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A section of the Interurban Trail in south Bellingham has reopened after an eight-month closure for a fish passage project. Crews are completing final fixes near Padden Creek and the city will host a guided tour in late April. KAFE
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers are considering a bill to bring WWU funding in line with that of other regional schools. The proposal, introduced by Rep. Joe Timmons, follows a nearly $23 million budget cut and was discussed at a public hearing in Olympia on Feb. 25. KAFE
- ➤ WWU will break ground on a 29,000 sqft student center (serving as a welcome center, event space, study area and support hub) on March 24 at the south end of campus; demolition is set for April and early May and the facility is expected to be completed in fall. KISM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sumas city officials announced low-interest disaster loans for businesses affected by the December flood; physical damage loan applications are due by April 27 and those for economic losses by Nov. 24 at the Disaster Loan Outreach Center at Sumas Advent Christian Church. KAFE
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ PeaceHealth will merge its two same-day care centers into one on March 2 (Monday) at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center to boost urgent care capacity. The new center will operate 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. KISM
