ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A family dog is recovering after a cougar attack near Bellingham on Saturday morning — local officers and WDFW said he received emergency surgery and warned that other big cats may still be seen nearby.  KAFE

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Puget Sound Energy announced a three-year rate change plan to raise electric bills nearly 30% and gas bills about 20% by 2029 if approved by the state commission—an 11-month review will fund a $3 billion effort to upgrade the grid.  My Bellingham Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lynden School District placed a capital levy on the April 28 ballot to raise $25.5 million for upgrades to classrooms, security and infrastructure — after three failed high school bonds — which would raise property taxes by about $1.09 per $1,000; the deadline for against statements is Wednesday.  KISM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers should plan extra commute time on I-5 through Ferndale, where the southbound left lane at Portal Way is closed for cable barrier maintenance today from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. & safety measures are in place.  KISM
  • British Columbia will adopt permanent Daylight Savings Time starting March 8, which means Washington travelers may face a time difference at the border when states switch back on Nov. 1. Premier David Eby said the change is designed to reduce scheduling issues and lost sleep.  KAFE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Vets in Whatcom County say pets may face seasonal allergies this spring and advise owners to watch for signs like itching, red skin, and ear issues. They recommend contacting a vet if symptoms persist as indoor and outdoor allergens can worsen pet comfort.  KISM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Seven Whatcom County high school teams continued their state basketball runs this weekend. The Lynden girls and boys won their games and advance to next rounds, and WWU women's team earned the top seed after a 78–55 win on Senior Night, with their playoff game scheduled Friday at Carver Gym.  KISM
