EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bellingham Public Schools is asking for community feedback on proposed changes that would shorten the school year to 179 days by shifting the start from the Thursday before Labor Day to the Tuesday after and moving the final day to June 12 instead of June 15. The district also plans to offer optional $100 fees for high school sports and drivers’ ed to help cover a ($15 million) deficit, and comments will be accepted through March 28 at 4 p.m. My Bellingham Now

- ➤ WSDOT announced that a new spring sailing schedule for the Anacortes and San Juan ferries will begin March 23 and run through June 14—updating a timetable that had not been revised in over a decade and often caused delays. The improved winter schedule raised on-time arrivals from about 68% to 91%. KAFE
- ➤ Whatcom County Public Works will close a lane of Birch Bay-Lynden Road near Ham Road from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 25 for roadwork. Contractors will test the roadway for the upcoming California Creek Culvert Replacement project—drivers are advised to use alternate routes due to expected delays. Lynden Tribune
