- ➤ City of Bellingham is investing $40 million to upgrade the sewage sludge incinerators at Post Point Wastewater Treatment Plant by adding new air emission control equipment to meet tougher federal rules. - ➤ Marine wildlife watchers saw a Bigg’s killer whale calf swimming with its 14-year-old mother Sedna in the Strait of Juan de Fuca on March 20th—this sighting comes as Bigg’s whales have stayed steady while Southern Resident Orcas have dropped and happened on the same day that former Secretary of State Ralph Munro, who once saw whales taken, died. - ➤ Attorney General Nick Brown joined over a dozen state attorneys general in filing a preliminary injunction motion on Monday, March 24 to block changes at the Department of Education that could lead to mass layoffs and shift education duties. - ➤ Washington drivers may face higher gas prices if lawmakers approve plans to raise gas taxes— the Senate proposal will add 6 cents per gallon in 2026 with a 2% rise through 2031 while the House plan calls for a 9-cent increase with a 3% climb to bridge a $1 billion transportation budget gap.
