  • Veteran Oscar Liberato from Lynden, who served in Iraq and suffered severe burns, is asking local residents for help to rebuild his home by replacing the mold-infested roof. His family says the repairs are a critical first step toward safety.  Lynden Tribune
  • Residents in Lynden attended the second community meeting on the Justice Project, an initiative aiming to reshape criminal justice and behavioral health across the county (participants offered feedback on its progress).  Lynden Tribune
  • Olivia Lenssen was crowned as the new Whatcom County Dairy Ambassador at a 70th anniversary program—she joins alternates Mia Alderliesten and Kortney Tolsma while outgoing ambassadors Sarah Van Berkum and Maddie DeLange step aside. The program celebrates local dairy traditions.  Lynden Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fourth Corner Punk Fest brings punk bands such as Pennywise and The Vandals to Evil Bikes in Fairhaven on July 18 and 19. The two day festival also includes a local stage, flash tattoos, a beer garden + food carts.  KISM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Mar. 25, Jason Kooi, president of Lynden Christian’s school board — also Hollander Hospitality's finance vice president — said the board aimed to shape students into influential citizens. He recalled his childhood dream of being a professional athlete as part of his journey in education.  Lynden Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Whatcom County Sheriff's Office officials and local ham radio groups will conduct a Fox Hunt exercise Saturday, Mar. 28 at Bellis Fair Mall to search for radio jammers and secure emergency communications for World Cup visitors.  KISM
  • Crews began clearing the North Cascades Highway on Monday, March 23, from Early Winters west even though the road remains closed at Diablo Lake due to a rockslide (weekday work hours are 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), and WSDOT urged travelers to heed closure points.  1170 KPUG

  • Today, the NBA board approved plans to explore an expansion team in Seattle with One Roof Sports & Entertainment leading talks, and the Mariners announced roster changes ahead of tomorrow’s home opener; WWU’s Olivia Hodges earned All-American honors.
