COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City Council approved a Civic Athletic Complex Master Plan on March 23 to build a future sports hub with an indoor center; Maritime Heritage Park now offers free event reservations for nonprofits. CULTURE NEWS

  • Local entertainer Brady McAtee (Buddy Mac) combines classic country tunes with ventriloquism on stages in Whatcom, Skagit, and Island counties. He now runs a custom repair shop at Bellingham Makerspace in Bellis Fair Mall.  KAFE
  • Bellingham's Brady McAtee, also known as Buddy Mac, performs classic western tunes and ventriloquism while celebrating his family’s musical history and a love for Hollywood West. He custom builds and repairs ventriloquist dummies at a local makerspace.  KISM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bellingham Public Schools is considering closing at least one elementary school due to a projected loss of up to 1,000 students by 2028 from lower birth rates. A task force is reviewing finances and enrollment numbers to decide on potential consolidations and boundary changes.  KISM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Whatcom County Council voted 7-0 on Tuesday, March 24 to secure additional funding for the Lummi Island Ferry to keep rides free for young passengers — a decision that supports local families.  My Bellingham Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • WWU softball will begin conference play when it hosts Central Washington tomorrow at Viking Field in Bellingham. The Vikings, holding a 14-11 record, are led by senior shortstop Hailey Rath who currently has 10 home runs and 36 RBI.  My Bellingham Now
  • The WWU Vikings will host a doubleheader tomorrow at Viking Field in Bellingham, starting at noon and 2:30 p.m. The team, with a 14-11 record after a recent mercy-rule win over Cal State East Bay, looks to gain momentum in conference play.  KISM
