ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildfire season is forecast to be severe this summer after record-warm temperatures reduced snowpack across the Cascades and Olympics, local air quality officials said. Residents should prepare by monitoring alerts and reducing outdoor exposure (especially if vulnerable).  KISM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Whatcom County Hearing Examiner released a report on Tuesday, March 31 showing that Canadian company AltaGas expanded its Cherry Point operation without proper permits and that the county will review the MDNS ruling (with environmental claims partly dismissed) as the appeal by local groups moves forward.  KISM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Western Washington University softball players Maleah Andrews and Hailey Rath were named to the D-II Player of the Year Watchlist after strong seasons. The Viks will face Northwest Nazarene in a doubleheader tomorrow at noon from Viking Field.  KISM
  • WWU Vikings junior third baseman Maleah Andrews and senior shortstop Hailey Rath were named to the West Region D-II Player of the Year Watchlist; the team is set to play a doubleheader tomorrow at noon (Viking Field) against Northwest Nazarene.  My Bellingham Now
