  • The state Employment Security Department reported Washington’s jobless rate stood at 5% in January — the highest in four years — after delayed data releases from last year’s shutdown. County-level stats will be released Tuesday, Apr. 7 with February and March reports to follow later this month.  KISM

  • In April, Whatcom County homeowners are urged to seal gaps and control moisture (expert advice) to reduce ants, spiders, and rodents from entering their homes. Early inspections and outdoor maintenance can help prevent pest problems during spring and summer.  My Bellingham Now
