Good morning, Bellingham. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 15th of April.

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The state Department of Fish and Wildlife classified golden mussels as prohibited, and local boat inspection stations will now check for them before boats enter local waters. The measure follows an incident in Oregon last week — a step to protect our water from invasive species.  My Bellingham Now
  • Anglers in the area will soon have the chance to catch spring chinook salmon on the Skagit River between the Memorial Highway Bridge and Gilligan Creek — the season opens Monday, Apr. 20 and runs until May 15 with a two-fish daily limit and minimum size requirements.  KISM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Western's junior third baseman Maleah Andrews earned national recognition as D-II Player of the Week by posting nine hits, six runs, three homers and seven RBI against Montana State Billings over four games (the Vikings trail Saint Martin's by two games in the GNAC and will play doubleheaders this weekend).  My Bellingham Now
  • WWU junior third baseman Maleah Andrews earned D-II Player of the Week after posting a 9-for-11 game with six runs, three home runs and seven RBI against Montana State Billings this past weekend. She is the first Viking in five years to win the honor.  KISM
