- ➤ The Bellingham City Council voted Monday night to acquire land under the Roeder Avenue Bridge to turn the unsanctioned skatepark used by the Northwest Skate Collective into a permanent city facility—up to $1.5 million in city funds will cover part of the costs while the collective will fund the rest, with a design expected to be done early 2026. - ➤ Three tulip farms, Tulip Town, Tulip Valley Farms and Garden Rosalyn, will stay open through May 4 as part of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival while weather forecasts predict sun and a high of 62° on closing day. KISM

- ➤ Dave Vitt founded Kulshan Brewing Company in 2011 when Bellingham had only two breweries and grew the business to include a second taproom in 2015 and a seasonal waterfront beer garden that served thousands during summer. - ➤ Today, Bellingham’s minimum wage rises to $18.66 per hour after a 2023 voter initiative+ starting in 2026, the rate will be set each January to be $2 above the state minimum, making Bellingham one of only two cities with this measure. My Bellingham Now

- ➤ Gov. Bob Ferguson signed HB 1046 on April 30 to protect good Samaritans who may damage a vehicle to rescue pets and vulnerable people from hot cars. The law requires rescuers to call 911 first and minimize damage when breaking in. My Bellingham Now
- ➤ The Port of Bellingham is considering ending its contract with Ireland-based Harcourt Developments because the pace of work has not met the agreement's requirements. The commission will take public comment at its meeting on May 6—if terminated, Harcourt will lose its exclusive rights to develop the waterfront while keeping ownership of some properties. KAFE
- ➤ Governor Ferguson will sign a new state budget that protects Whatcom County’s LEAD program from shutdown even though its funding is cut by 30%—the program, which helps frequent offenders avoid jail by giving them support, was previously funded equally by state and local sources.
