CULTURE NEWS

  • Northwest Tune-Up announced its music and bike festival lineup on April 30. The event will run Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12 in Bellingham with main stage acts like Hippie Sabotage and Souls of Mischief — a mountain biking film fest will preface the weekend.  KAFE

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Bellingham were nearly at a record high on Thursday as the local average reached $5.48 per gallon, just five cents below the all-time mark, while AAA reported the state average at $5.57 per gallon.  KAFE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Whatcom County is reviewing a proposal for a 64-acre open-pit quarry near Sumas with public feedback accepted through May 29. The review will finish early 2027 and the project supports road, railroad & port infrastructure as Cowden Inc. expects 25 trucks daily, doubling during peak times.  KISM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Public Works closed a downtown alley between Railroad and Cornwall Avenues and installed fencing at the entrances. The two-block stretch between Holly and Champion Streets will be cleaned and upgraded for security — no reopening date is set — to curb ongoing drug use.  KISM

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Bellingham hosts the 2026 Cascadia International Women’s Film Festival at Pickford Film Center and Mount Baker Theatre through Sunday, while Monday Mount Baker Theatre shows Return of the Jedi and Saturday brings the Procession of the Species parade + live music at Wild Buffalo and Shakedown.  KAFE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sehome and Squalicum high schools will face off tonight at 7:00 at Sehome High School in their final regular season boys soccer match, with Sehome holding a 15-0 record and Squalicum at 12-0 with three ties. Squalicum has already secured the top seed for the district tournament.  KISM
