COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City Council members approved a $3.7 million pathway project at Sunset Pond that will add boardwalks, bridges, and a connection to nearby trails. Construction will begin in June and is expected to finish in early 2027 — the project is partially funded by a $1 million state grant and Greenways levy funds.  KISM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man and his dog were rescued over the weekend after the dog fell into a cave near Sudden Valley while the owner got stuck trying to save it — rescuers used ropes and pulleys to extract them with no injuries reported.  KAFE

CRIME NEWS

  • Washington State Patrol responded to two wrong way driving incidents in Whatcom County when a driver experiencing a mental health crisis was safely removed from I-5 near Bellingham on Saturday + a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after driving wrong way near Ferndale on Monday morning + no injuries were reported.  KAFE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Whatcom County Public Works will host three virtual water adjudication workshops this month — each session is limited to 50 households and requires advance registration. The sessions will offer demonstrations and answer questions to help water users understand their new water rights after claim forms were mailed in March.  KAFE

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Mariners split their series with the Rangers by winning 13-1 and 2-1 before losing 8-1 — they will start their road game against the Athletics tonight at 7:05. The WWU Vikings softball team won an 8-7 game to clinch the GNAC Tournament and will face Concordia Irvine at 2 p.m. on Thursday, while the Sounders and Reign secured wins on Saturday and the Storm announced that forward Katie Lou Samuelson will miss the season with an ACL tear.  My Bellingham Now
