- ➤ This year’s Stamp Out Hunger is scheduled for May 10 in Lynden — an event that will spotlight food insufficiency, which the National Institute of Health says is often the most extreme form of food insecurity — as community members are invited to donate food to help those in need. Lynden Tribune

- ➤ Rite Aid said on May 5 that it would try to sell most of its assets—including its five Whatcom County stores, three in Bellingham, one in Ferndale and one in Lynden—as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring, and it planned to transfer customer prescriptions to other pharmacies while keeping the stores open. - ➤ A fiery dispute over a truck sale near Custer on May 4 ended with a truck burning with someone inside, and a 51-year-old woman was arrested and remains in jail on $50,000 bail — with damages exceeding $3,000 and no injuries reported. KISM

- ➤ The City of Bellingham launched its Community Streets Program last week to let residents share concerns over traffic safety—feedback is accepted online, by phone, or in person through May 31 for streets in the Cordata, Meridian, King Mountain, Irongate, Barkley and Silver Beach neighborhoods. - ➤ WSDOT removed a stuffed sloth from I-5 on March 18, and a second one high in trees will stay for now—its removal needs special equipment and could shut down the freeway. Crews will work for several weeks on Chuckanut Drive between mileposts 9.5 and 10 to clear loose rock and repair the road—nearby businesses remain open. KISM
