- ➤ Maddie DeLange of Lynden was crowned the 2025-2026 Whatcom County Dairy Ambassador while Sarah Van Berkum of Everson is named her alternate. The Dairy Ambassador Competition took place on April 26 at the Lynden Heritage Museum— a program hosted by Whatcom County Dairy Women for nearly seven decades. Lynden Tribune
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Victor Alcala-Arellanes—who pleaded guilty in February for drug trafficking and possession and was sentenced to 16 months in prison—was arrested on May 5 in Bellingham and taken into ICE custody as part of a targeted investigation into a Mexico-based drug operation. KISM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ WSDOT said a rockslide on April 22 blocked a 150-foot section of Chuckanut Drive—crews are working six days a week to remove large boulders—and the closure will extend through June. Local attractions including Larrabee State Park, The Oyster Bar, Taylor Shellfish and Chuckanut Manor remain open with detours in place. KAFE
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center and its clinics will face a five-day strike by unionized workers starting on May 12 due to concerns about wages, staffing, and patient care. The hospital has secured temporary replacement workers — ensuring safe, quality care continues during the work stoppage as contract talks resume. KISM
