Good morning, Bellingham.

Bellingham officials announced community events and public works projects that affect roads and public spaces.

Events include a preschool story time and APIDA Heritage celebration on May 14, Bike to Work and School Day on May 16, and improvements starting May 12 near downtown roads — with detours expected near Storybrook Park — while volunteer programs work to clear litter.

Everson Nooksack Valley Farmers Market, founded in 2022 by Jesse Johnson, added a 5K fun run on opening day May 4 — expanding its weekly program that features farmers, artisans, and vendor Katy Gormley who now helps run the show.

A Seattle man, Mohamed Abdirisak Mohamed, was sentenced to eight years behind bars for his role in a fentanyl ring that moved drugs from Seattle to Whatcom County—most of which were distributed in the Lummi Nation, with firearms and thousands of pills found during traffic stops in 2022 and 2023.

Whatcom County launched a free online Customer Service Portal that lets residents view permit details, planning documents, fee estimators, and inspections by address.

The county said additional services for other permits and plans will be added within the next year + the tool offers a simple way to track construction projects.

Today, Whatcom County launched a Customer Service Portal on its website so residents can view permits, planning documents, and pay fees—more online services will be added over the next year.
