COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A new park on Bakerview Rd in north Bellingham will serve the King Mountain and Meridian neighborhoods as public name suggestions are accepted through May 28. The master plan will be presented to city council later this summer, and park construction is slated for 2027. KAFE
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Alaska Airlines will begin a second daily round-trip flight from Bellingham to Portland starting Nov. 1. The midday flight departs from Bellingham at 12:35 p.m. and will arrive from Portland just before noon. KAFE
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ocean Shores crews used an excavator to drag a 30-ft gray whale carcass above the tide line and cover it with sand and logs on Monday, May 11. The 18 dead whales since April have raised concern as scientists say starvation may be a factor (echoing the area’s whaling past). FOX13
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Western Washington University's softball team won the GNAC championship Saturday and will face Cal State East Bay in the NCAA West Regional on Thursday in Hayward + the men's golf team also won its NCAA regional title to earn a spot in the national championship near Las Vegas next week. KISM
