COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The NW WA Fair has cancelled the 84th International Plowing Match scheduled for Saturday in Lynden following the unexpected death of six-time champion *Craig Shagren* on Monday, May 11. Memorial services for Shagren are yet to be announced.  KAFE

CULTURE NEWS

  • The art center is showcasing work from Cascadia Elementary, Horizon and Vista Middle and Ferndale High schools as part of Emerging Young Artists of Ferndale from today until May 28. Opening event runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at It's About Time Cultural Arts Center (2013 Main St.).  KISM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WSDOT crews are working around the clock to repair a 6-mile stretch of SR 20 from Canyon Creek Trailhead to Granite Creek, which suffered December washouts. They are also clearing a rockslide near Diablo Lake and expect the highway to reopen fully by the 4th of July.  KISM

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Birch Bay Waterslides was listed at $6 million on Monday, May 11, and will remain closed this summer, offering future owners the chance to expand the facility by developing additional space + tapping into its rare market availability.   KAFE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tonight the Mariners will begin Bryce Miller’s season debut at KPUG, building on last night’s win with strong performances from Cal Raleigh and the team, while Lynden’s softball team clinched the district title and local district baseball and boys soccer championships continue with games at Daniels Field and Blaine High School.  KISM
