ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Whatcom County hit record highs as the average regular gas is $5.76 per gallon, 44 cents higher than last month, and are expected to rise ahead of Memorial Day weekend.  KISM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WSDOT crews plan to reopen North Cascades Highway in both directions by Thursday, June 25, ending a closure that began in late April. Emergency repairs include stabilizing a rockslide near Diablo Lake and rebuilding a six-mile stretch east.  KAFE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Eligible residents who contributed to the WA Cares Fund can now apply for long-term care benefits such as installing a wheelchair ramp, caregiver pay, and rides to doctor’s appointments—applications can be submitted online, by phone, or in person. Benefits open July 1.  My Bellingham Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Whatcom County prep schools head into state tournaments this weekend — boys soccer will begin tomorrow at King's High School as Lynden Christian faces University Prep at 6 p.m. Softball and baseball matchups will be set later this week, with teams competing for seeding and regional advancement.  KISM
