- ➤ Two suspected drug dealers from Blaine were arrested on May 20th near Ferndale after deputies searched a parked car and found 160 grams of illegal drugs including fentanyl and methamphetamine—both suspects remain in Whatcom County Jail without bail. KAFE
- ➤ A Ferndale High senior is on life support after an accidental shooting inside a Bellingham apartment on May 18th and an 18-year-old suspect (who said he did not know the gun was loaded while he and the victim were handling a laser device) is held at Whatcom County Jail on $1 million bail. KISM
- ➤ A pair of suspected drug dealers from Blaine were arrested near Ferndale on May 20 when deputies stopped a parked car and found one suspect already wanted in a previous cocaine case and the other seen with a drug pipe — a search warrant recovered about 160 grams of fentanyl and meth, a scale, baggies and cash, and both remain at Whatcom County Jail without bail. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife stated that as of May 17 it is illegal to feed deer, elk and moose to help stop the spread of chronic wasting disease — the rule bans placing, distributing, depositing or scattering feed at human-made feeding spots — and it urges residents to remove items that attract these animals from their yards. - ➤ Governor Bob Ferguson signed a controversial bill on May 20 that protects K–12 student privacy by keeping medical and counseling records secret from parents— the law takes effect immediately and adds ethnicity, homelessness, immigration status and neurodivergence as protected classes while still letting parents opt their children out of select programs.
