  • Bellingham food truck Burnt Side Down announced it is selling its truck after two years in business and will keep serving gourmet grilled cheese six days a week at Stemma Brewing — the owners said life is taking them in a new direction.  KISM

CRIME NEWS

  • Bellingham Police investigated an armed robbery on Tuesday night at the 100 block of N. Samish Way — the suspect remains at large while the victim was not injured.  KAFE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Riley Liddle of Squalicum High School and Dave Tjoelker—former Lynden Christian Middle School teacher—were honored for teaching excellence at a ceremony in Lynden on May 16. They received $5,000 awards—provided by Brown and Brown Insurance—and were selected from nine nominees.  KAFE
  • Whatcom County honored two educators in Lynden on May 16 when Brown and Brown Insurance awarded $5,000—Riley Liddle of Squalicum High School was recognized for his focus on robotics while Dave Tjoelker was honored for his work teaching Bible classes and language arts after many years at Lynden Christian Middle School.  KISM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington drivers will soon be able to purchase a Smokey Bear license plate that supports wildfire prevention by funding the Washington DNR—Governor Bob Ferguson signed Senate Bill 5444 on May 20 and the plate will be available on Nov 1 with an initial fee of $40 and a $30 annual renewal fee.  FOX13
  • Bellingham city council voted earlier this week to send a letter to nine Canadian cities affirming a commitment to a positive relationship—city staff say many families rely on cross-border travel and commerce. The letter comes amid a drop in Canadian travel that is already affecting local sales tax revenue.  KISM

  • Polyrhythmics will perform at Wild Buffalo on Friday at 9 p.m. while on Saturday the Stones Throw Brewery Block Party—donating 10% to Walk and Roll Bellingham—is set along with a children’s art exhibit and a parade on Cornwall Ave. The Fairhaven Festival on Sunday will mark the Ski to Sea relay finish with food, vendors and live music, and residents are urged to walk, bike or use transit to avoid parking issues.  My Bellingham Now
