  • A year after a truck spilled 14 million bees on Weidkamp Road near Lynden on Friday, May 30, local beekeepers and the Sheriff’s Office DEM joined forces to create a new emergency plan for bee incidents.  KAFE

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Whatcom County's jobless rate stayed at 4.8% in April after losing over 100 jobs from March, and Skagit County showed a similar trend with its rate rising more than one percentage point from last April; a new statewide job report is expected on June 17.  KISM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The state Board of Education recognized 379 public schools from 150 districts for closing opportunity gaps in the 2024–25 school year, with Beach Elementary in the Ferndale district noted for its top 10% growth in math and improved attendance — officials said.  Lynden Tribune
  • Debbie Huskey was named the Lynden/Ferndale Masonic Lodge No. 56 Educator of the Year today by the Nooksack Valley School Board (award presented by Dick Decima) during a brief recognition ceremony with local school leaders present.  Lynden Tribune
