EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lynden’s junior student Nischayjeet Buttar works toward his private pilot’s license, inspired by his father’s inability to fly due to challenges beyond his control. He pursues his dream while studying at Lynden High School.  Lynden Tribune
  • Bellingham Public Schools is starting major projects including a new Community Transitions Building at Whatcom College for special education, summer upgrades at Squalicum High and design work for a new Roosevelt Elementary; the Facility Planning Task Force will release recommendations later this week.  KISM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Washington insurers are proposing a 22% increase for individual market health plans in 2027, affecting over 280,000 residents who do not get insurance from an employer - the Insurance Commissioner will review the proposal in September before open enrollment starts in November.  KISM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bellingham held a Downtown Block Party with local breweries on Commercial Street on May 24 that featured a raffle at Stones Throw Brewery for tickets to the Belgium vs. Egypt match during the World Cup. Local fans enjoyed free activities and festive community spirit.  FOX13
