ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The state Department of Ecology opened public comment Monday, June 1 at the Georgia-Pacific West cleanup site as the Port of Bellingham plans work later this year in the Chlor-Alkali area for future commercial, retail and residential development. Comments are due by midnight on July 1 + they will help shape the final cleanup plans. KISM
- ➤ The Bureau of Land Management advises residents to take extra precautions as warmer weather increases wildfire risks. A burn ban on unincorporated areas takes effect on June 15 (restricting fireworks, sky lanterns, and similar items) to reduce human-caused fires. KAFE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, June 1, downtown parking has one unified PayByPhone zone that lets drivers move from City Hall to Railroad Avenue without paying extra; the city said nearly 60% already use phone payments. KAFE
- ➤ Marblemount Bridge is closed since Monday, June 1 for nearly three weeks for rehabilitation—locals and overnight travelers near SR 20 must use alternate routes. The North Cascades Highway now has a new closure point at Ross Dam Trailhead and is set to reopen on June 25. KAFE
