CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Coleen Clark pleaded guilty to murdering Zachariah Janusiewicz at a homeless encampment near Tull Road last year and was sentenced to 10 years in prison while her alleged accomplice, Gale Jefferson, will face a jury trial starting July 14. KAFE
- ➤ Bellingham law enforcement arrested two people after a cocaine lab was discovered in a hotel room on E. Kellogg Road following a drug deal on Meridian Street on June 10 — the 34-year-old man remains in jail without bail while the 27-year-old woman was released and further arrests are expected. KAFE
- ➤ The Washington State Patrol has issued a missing persons alert for 17-year-old Damien George (5′ 6″ tall, 130 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes, wearing a black hoodie, black pants and blue shoes) after he was last seen around 7 a.m. on June 11 leaving his residence off Smokehouse Road in Bellingham. - ➤ A woman pleaded guilty to murder after firing a shot at a Bellingham homeless encampment in April 2024 — she received a 10-year prison sentence while her alleged accomplice, who pleaded not guilty, faces trial on July 14. KISM

- ➤ The Bellingham Public Library—first built in 1950—received over $6 million in funding as part of the 2025–2027 state budget, with matching city and private donations to support phase two renovations that will add an ADA-accessible children's area, new help desk and updated HVAC; construction is set to begin in 2026 or 2027. - ➤ A California-based company is recalling cage-free and organic eggs sold under brands Clover, O Organics, Marketside and Simple Truth due to Salmonella concerns — the recalled eggs have sell-by dates from March 4 to June 19 and were distributed in nine states, including Walmart in Washington. The Whatcom County Health Department warns that vulnerable people may face serious illness so customers should throw away or return any eggs with a recalled lot number — if in doubt, discard them.
