ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Friday, a fire broke out in an apartment building near I-5 in Bellingham where two people were sent to hospital after one resident jumped from a second-story window while firefighters rescued another person and put out the blaze 30 minutes after arriving — the cause is under investigation.  KAFE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Washington State Department of Ecology said the June carbon auction sold out when each allowance was priced at $58.51—up from $50 in March, and the $322 million raised will fund green-energy projects like electric school buses, solar installations and heat pump projects across the state.  KISM
  • The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife said the crabbing season will run from July 17 to Sept. 29 in Bellingham Bay and the San Juan Islands with fishing allowed Thursday through Monday. Officials set limits of five Dungeness crabs, six red rock crabs, and six tanner crabs — gear must be removed from the water by one hour after sunset.  KISM
  • The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife announced that crabbing season will open on July 17 in Bellingham Bay and the San Juan Islands and will run until Sept. 29 with fishing allowed from Thursday to Monday. Crabbers must follow state rules that limit catches to five Dungeness, six red rock, and six tanner crabs and require gear to be removed one hour after sunset — gear cannot remain in the water on closed days.  KAFE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jerry and Terri-Lynn Land claim the city of Bellingham illegally seized and destroyed their motorhome in 2023, leaving Mr. Land—a disabled Army veteran dependent on supplemental oxygen—without vital equipment. The couple is suing the city for damages and a violation of their constitutional rights.  KAFE

  • Bellingham based Bornstein Seafoods has recalled over 44,000 pounds of cooked and peeled shrimp due to possible Listeria contamination; the recall covers 1 lb and 5 lb plastic bag packages sent to Washington and several other states — no illnesses have been reported so far.  KISM
