- ➤ Today, Bellingham hosts free outdoor concerts in Elizabeth Park every Thursday through Aug. 22 and offers a library card night at the Bells on June 26 while the City seeks volunteers for several advisory boards and begins watermain work near C Street and Irving Street next week—city crews are also ramping up summer maintenance on streets and parks and inviting teachers to apply for an art education conference by June 30. - ➤ Human remains were found near the I-5 off-ramp on Lakeway Drive in Bellingham Tuesday afternoon—troopers are investigating the death and have not identified the person. KISM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Washington State Transportation Commission proposed a 3% raise in vehicle and passenger fares on ferries in October with another 3% increase and a 35% summer surcharge planned for May — public comment is now being accepted before the final vote on August 6. Residents can submit feedback via email, phone, or mail. KAFE
- ➤ The Housing Authority has secured funds from the state Department of Commerce, FEMA and insurance to repair the 11-unit Sumas Square Apartments that were damaged in the November 2021 floods—forcing all residents to relocate. Construction is scheduled to start in 2026 and residents are expected to return in 2027—while Habitat for Humanity received a $15,000 AARP grant to support home repairs. KISM
