Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 8th of July.
Good morning, Bellingham.
Two British Columbia women were injured when a 62-year-old driver—traveling north on I-5 near Bellingham—fell asleep at the wheel and her car drifted into bushes, sending her to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center while her 85-year-old passenger went to Harborview Medical Center and drugs or alcohol did not factor in the crash.
On July 7th, WA Attorney General Nick Brown led a 16-state lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education for allegedly cutting mental health funding in K–12 schools.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court, seeks an injunction to reverse the funding cuts that may leave three local education service districts without support this fall — the DOE sent funding revocation notices on April 29.
The Whatcom County Auditor’s office will offer tours of the local election center from July 29 through July 31 to explain how ballots are processed and how security measures work (tours last under an hour).
Interested participants can reserve a slot by calling the office at 360-778-5102.
