- ➤ The Washington State Office of the Attorney General won a trial that ordered the Michigan-based Labor Law Poster Service to pay over $8.2 million in penalties and consumer restitution for mass-mailing deceptive posters to small businesses, with fines calculated at $12 per nearly 600,000 mailers and additional amounts for restitution. - ➤ Bellingham City Council approved Faber Construction on Monday night to improve trails in Hundred Acre Wood by narrowing and resurfacing paths, planting native species, building a habitat fence, adding a new bridge over Hoag’s Creek, and installing boardwalks and park benches—construction is expected to start by the end of the month and finish by about February. - ➤ The City of Bellingham released conceptual designs for a new skatepark under the Roeder Avenue Bridge, purchased from the Port of Bellingham this year — the $3 million project in partnership with Northwest Skate Collective will host skateboarding, live music and art while public comment is accepted in the coming months. - ➤ Camp Firewood's sewer lift station overflowed at around 7 p.m. on Monday, July 7, and some sewage flowed into a stormwater drain that leads directly to Lake Whatcom—prompting a public health alert for residents who rely on untreated lake water. Crews from the Lake Whatcom Water and Sewer District installed a temporary pump late last night—while a full repair began this morning. KISM
