  • The NW WA Fair will hold its Community Education Day on Aug. 7—teachers with valid IDs get free entry at Gates 1 and 5 while others can enter by donating a new backpack or four school supplies. On Aug. 8, Brown and Brown Insurance will host Food Drive Friday where visitors who bring four food items get free entry and help support the Whatcom Food Bank Network.  KAFE

CRIME NEWS

  • Lummi Nation Police said an officer shot last week is recovering well — a fundraising dinner at Syros Greek & Italian Restaurant in Lynden raised over $20,000 from more than 600 meals for his family and the suspect, Jesus Penuelas-Agramon, is scheduled for arraignment at 8:30 a.m. Friday in Whatcom County Superior Court on charges of attempted murder.  KAFE

  • Wildfire smoke from the Bear Gulch Fire in Mason County affected air quality across western Washington on August 5th. Doctors warn that smoke can harm lungs and advise residents to check air quality, wear an N-95 mask — and stay indoors if symptoms worsen.  FOX13
