- ➤ Weston Persons opened Madrona Wear in Bellingham to repair and resell reclaimed clothing after he noticed that many expensive items were ending up in the trash; he started the business in his kitchen and later moved to a new shop at the corner of Ellis Street and Lakeway Drive with three employees. He plans to offer more community education and inclusivity with Spanish signage—committing to sustainability by extending the life of local clothing. KISM

- ➤ Bellingham removed several chestnut trees along Chestnut Street because arborists found some trees completely dead and others very ill — city officials said they will monitor the remaining trees and replant new ones in the fall. My Bellingham Now

- ➤ Bellingham City Council voted Monday to begin talks with Janicki Logging and Construction Co. on an 80-acre logging project on Galbraith Mountain in the North Beaver Creek Preserve — Public Works said the dense trees have blocked new growth and work will start next year as plans are finalized.
