- ➤ Peoples Bank will launch the Great Peoples Bank Pig Search contest on Friday, Aug. 29 when 500 piggy banks containing $10 each will be hidden across its 23 branch locations+ the bank is also running an online contest with a $1,000 giveaway open to everyone and hints will be posted on Instagram. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Bellingham Police arrested a 35-year-old man for a felony hit-and-run after he hit a bicyclist at the intersection of Alabama and James Streets around 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 22 — he was booked into Whatcom County Jail. KISM
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Port of Bellingham released a study showing Whatcom County has nearly 3,400 acres of industrial land, though about 1,000 acres face challenges with water, sewer and power — key infrastructure is missing. The study recommends expanding wetland mitigation and improving truck corridors — actions aimed at supporting future job growth. KISM
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Washington Department of Ecology is seeking public feedback on its plan to reduce pollution in Drayton Harbor by targeting high levels of fecal bacteria in the harbor and its streams—comments are accepted online or by mail through Sept. 26 and an informational meeting will be held at the Blaine Public Library next Thursday at 6 p.m. via Zoom. - ➤ Bellingham City Council will hold a public hearing on Monday to review proposed changes to temporary shelter regulations.
