CULTURE NEWS

  • Jennifer Maas is the new director of the Lynden Heritage Museum as outgoing director Amanda May helped her transition—she takes pride in her direct connection to one of the museum’s exhibits.  Lynden Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A fire near Ross Lake has burned over 1,300 acres as crews worked to protect campgrounds on Little Beaver — Silver Creek, while dry conditions have worsened air quality. Northwest winds pushed more pollutants toward Maple Falls and Everson on Friday, and an air station near Mount Baker Ski Area reported unhealthy air since 2 a.m.  KISM
  • The Heather Meadows Visitor Center closed because air quality in eastern Whatcom County was unhealthy on Friday+ measurements ranged from 160 to 175 and reached 250 near Perry Fire, and the U.S. Forest Service said the center will remain closed until conditions improve.  KISM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, Friday Night Lights is live from Lynden High School as Whatcom County prep football kicks off and Bellingham plays on the road against Lynwood at 5:00—Logan Gilbert will start for the Mariners at 4:10 on KGMI. Tomorrow, the Seahawks open their season against the 49ers on KPUG while various local teams meet in scheduled contests.  KISM
  • Today, The Zone’s Friday Night Lights show is live from Lynden High School as Whatcom County kicks off its prep football season at 7 p.m. while the Mariners take the field with a 4:10 first pitch and the Storm chase a playoff spot tonight—additionally, the Seahawks will open their season on Sunday against the 49ers with coverage starting at 11 a.m.  My Bellingham Now
