- ➤ North County Christ the King All Stars Club will host an event on Sept. 19 in Lynden to offer an inclusive space for people of all ages with disabilities and give caregivers a chance to rest—organizer Jenna Vanderpol created the event after seeking more community support for her sister. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Whatcom County finalized deals with four contractors to design and build a new jail on LaBounty Drive in Ferndale — the design team includes national Nelson Worldwide Architects and local RMC Architects and construction will be handled by national Clark Construction and local RAM Construction with work set to begin in 2026 and finish by summer 2028 at the earliest. - ➤ An early Oktoberfest preview was held on Friday at Kulshan’s Trackside Beer Garden with live music and a stein-holding contest while official festivities run from September 20 to October 5. Today, the Whatcom County Farm Tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Deming Library unveils a Coast Salish mural from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.—plus folk singer Kim Richey performs at the Mount Baker Theatre with a metal show set for Sunday.
