  • The Lynden School Board will discuss a resolution on Thursday, Sept. 18 to designate the Monday before Sept. 10 as 'Charles James Kirk Day' in memory of the activist who was killed following a candlelight vigil at Bender Ball Field — the proposal also supports debate clubs to help students learn civil discourse. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bellingham Parks and Rec said the Boulevard Park Shoreline project will begin in October and last through December, limiting access to parking, the shoreline, trail and turf areas south and west of Woods Coffee. The project will improve the park’s eastern and western beaches, increase public access to the bay, and add an alternate trail—while scheduled night work during low-tide periods may bring noise—and is expected to finish by spring 2026.  My Bellingham Now
  • At Monday night’s meeting, the Bellingham City Council approved new temporary shelter guidelines that remove capacity limits—voted unanimously—and took a 5-2 vote to reconsider annexation near Squalicum High School while moving forward with a plan for a one-tenth of one percent sales tax to fund criminal justice services, with a final vote planned before Oct. 17. Council member Michael Lilliquist said the annexation idea, though not perfect, is acceptable due to its location on a busy transportation corridor.  My Bellingham Now
