- ➤ Boundary Bay Brewery, a 30-year local business, will close Railroad Avenue for over 12 hours on Saturday, Sept. 20 for its final block party as it cohosts an all-ages beer garden with chef demos, vendors, and live music (featuring local acts including Bottle of Smoke, Baby Cakes, Sleepy Alligators, and Hot Damn Scandal). - ➤ At Meridian High School, North Whatcom Fire and Rescue career firefighter Cody Stamberger joined Northwest Career and Technical Academy Fire Science students to honor Sept. 11 by sharing a story of bravery, loyalty, and selflessness. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A coalition of West Coast states released vaccine recommendations ahead of flu season based on trusted medical organizations, and Washington's standing order advises anyone six months and older to get the updated COVID-19 vaccine. The recommendations also suggest that everyone receive the influenza vaccine and that children under eight months and seniors 75 and older get the RSV vaccine—guidelines focused on science, safety and transparency. - ➤ Two local farms in Whatcom County offer family-friendly apple picking for fall—Bellewood Farms in Lynden runs from Aug. 30 until Oct. 31 with a corn maze and bin train ride, and Sm’Apples Orchard in Ferndale offers picking until Nov. 22 with apple cider and fresh produce available.
