BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Bellingham City Council is expected to vote on an ordinance that would raise the business license threshold from $2000 to $4000 at their Monday meeting—if passed, the new rule will take effect January 1 and be updated every 2 years with Consumer Price Index data.  KISM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • North Cascades National Park lifted its burn ban on Monday, Sept. 29—campfires are now allowed in designated sites, though officials warn that fires must be kept small. The Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office said its county ban will end at midnight Saturday, Oct. 4—residents still need a permit for any fire larger than four feet by four feet.  KISM
  • Officials lifted the burn ban in North Cascades National Park on Sept. 29 and advised campers to keep campfires small. The county-wide ban in unincorporated Whatcom will be lifted at midnight on Oct. 4—residents still need a permit for fires larger than four feet by four feet.  KAFE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bellingham City Council will vote Monday night on an agreement that will let the city pay up to $100,000 to help run a severe weather shelter if Whatcom County uses its initial $450,000 budget—adding up to a total of $650,000 for shelter costs. The shelter will open only when the temperature drops to 32 degrees for at least four hours, with extra costs paid by the county.  KISM

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Mariners will open their MLB postseason at home this Saturday as officials warned that playoff games may delay Seahawks home kickoffs by up to two-and-a-half hours due to traffic issues near T-Mobile Park—KPUG will air key games while local college and high school contests, including a loss by Bellingham to Archbishop Murphy, ended streaks and set new records. The Huskies lost their 22-game home win streak at Husky Stadium when Ohio State pulled away after a solid first half.  My Bellingham Now
  • The Mariners will open their postseason at home this Saturday and officials warn that the Seahawks’ next home games may be delayed — a change needed to manage traffic near T-Mobile Park and Lumen Field. High school football saw Sehome's quarterback Nolan Wright break the local touchdown record in a 42 to 7 win while Bellingham lost 61 to 28 to Archbishop Murphy.  KISM
