- ➤ Jasmine Ikeda, an Orcas Island resident, was detained by the Israeli military after joining a Gaza aid flotilla on Oct.1 and spent over 20 hours at gunpoint in a cell — she was released just before an agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas — and landed at Boeing Field on Sunday. KISM
- ➤ Jasmine Ikeda—an Orcas Island activist—was released from Israeli military custody on Sunday after several days of detention following her participation in a Gaza aid flotilla intercepted on Oct 1. - ➤ Habitat for Humanity of Whatcom County repaired four homes in Kendall on Oct. 4 so residents can continue to age in place. The work included installing prefabricated stairs, cleaning up trash and yards — fixing a fence and weather stripping a back door. Lynden Tribune

- ➤ A government shutdown is threatening healthcare for thousands of residents who rely on tax credits for coverage. Washington Health Benefit Exchange CEO Ingrid Ulrey said if Congress fails to extend the credits—currently used by nearly 217,000 people—the rising premiums will force about 80,000 residents to drop coverage, and open enrollment for 2026 begins Nov 1 via Washington Healthplanfinder.
