COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Bellingham is asking for community input to develop a new park on E. Bakerview Road for the 7,800 residents in the King Mountain and Meridian neighborhoods with no nearby parks—plans include a trail network, stream restoration and new residential development. Residents can attend a public meeting at Bellingham Covenant Church on Oct. 23 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  KAFE
  • Komo Kulshan Ski Swap is taking place Friday and today at the Bloedel Donovan Park gym — skiers and snowboarders can purchase new and used gear while entry fees support the club’s scholarship program and the Mount Baker Race Team.  KISM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bellingham Police Department unveiled a new patrol car wrapped in pink and purple to honor breast cancer and domestic violence awareness month, featuring a Salish Sea mural with majestic trees, orcas and mountains+ it also pays tribute to Lummi Victims of Crime.  KAFE

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Local broker Adrik Brashear of The Muljat Group reported that Whatcom County home sale prices dropped 4.3% in the third quarter, with the median price falling to $623,995—this decline is the largest since the second quarter of 2023.  Lynden Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, KPUG airs the Zone's Friday Night Lights pregame show at Civic Field from 3-7 pm and covers the Mariners home game against the Toronto Blue Jays with starter Bryce Miller and a possible bullpen return by Bryan-Woo. Regional sports action also features Kraken hockey, college matchups with UW Huskies and Cougs, and high school football such as the Sehome-Bellingham rivalry broadcast live from Civic Stadium, with more contests scheduled for tomorrow.  My Bellingham Now
  • Local sports are busy tonight as the Mariners host the Blue Jays in Game 5 of the ALCS with pregame coverage starting at 2:00 on KGMI and Friday Night Lights airs live from the Sehome + Bellingham high school rivalry at Civic Stadium. Regional contests continue with hockey games, college matchups featuring the Huskies and Cougs, and the Vikings aiming to extend their winning streak in soccer and volleyball in upcoming contests.  KISM
