COMMUNITY NEWS

  • PNW Media Group has launched a seasonal campaign to support local food banks by highlighting one in each county, including the Bellingham Food Bank in Whatcom County—encouraging residents to donate and help keep no local family without essentials.  My Bellingham Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • In Whatcom County, Bio Bug advises homeowners to remove food and water sources and seal entry gaps to stop pigeons, starlings, and sparrows from nesting near homes—steps that help prevent property damage from droppings and pests. The company also recommends installing barriers like bird spikes or netting—measures that support safe, effective nest removal by professionals.  KISM
  • The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the Cascades in Whatcom and Skagit counties beginning at 4 p.m. today until Friday morning — drivers are urged to slow down as forecasts expect 4 to 8 inches of snow along the Cascade crest and up to 10 inches on Mount Baker.  My Bellingham Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Whatcom County Health and Community Services reported that paralytic shellfish poisoning levels have dropped in waters north of Sandy Point and that beaches including Point Roberts have reopened after being closed in early September—harvesters are encouraged to check state closure maps before collecting shellfish.  KISM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, the Seahawks bolstered their offense by trading for wide receiver Rashid Shaheed from the Saints in exchange for draft picks, and the Cardinals named Jacoby Brissett to start in Seattle as Kyler Murray recovers from injury—while the Sounders won 4—2 over Minnesota to force a decisive Game 3. Local prep teams from Lynden and Sehome are set to compete in district volleyball and soccer championships soon.  KISM
  • The Seahawks acquired wide receiver Rashid Shaheed from the Saints today in exchange for picks to boost their offense, and the Sounders forced a decisive Game 3 with Obed Vargas scoring twice in a 4-2 win, while the Kraken edged the Blackhawks 3-1 and the Mariners announced award finalists and roster moves. Local prep district championships in soccer and volleyball will be played tonight and tomorrow at venues including Meridian High School and Civic Stadium—teams compete for spots in the state tournament.  My Bellingham Now
