COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, American Legion Post 7 in Bellingham hosts a Veterans Day ceremony with music starting at 10:30 a.m. and a 21 Gun Salute at 11 followed by a community lunch—Texas Roadhouse offers free meals for veterans and active military from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. while state ferries sound horns at 11:11 to honor the armistice, with over 13,800 veterans countywide.  KAFE

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A paper shredder malfunction caused a small fire Friday evening at Lynden Heritage Museum that spread smoke and soot through the building and caused about $3,000 in damage while first responders put out the blaze in roughly 20 minutes — the museum remains closed until Wednesday as cleanup continues and the community is asked to help through donations.  KISM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews will shut down the right lane of I-5 southbound from Portal Way to the Nooksack River starting 8 p.m. Wednesday—closing the on-ramp until 6 a.m. Thursday—as part of the final phase of a 10-mile repaving project from Blaine to Ferndale. Rolling slowdowns for commercial filming will affect both directions on SR 542 from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and lane closures for maintenance will be in effect on Everson Road from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.  My Bellingham Now
  • Local officials have issued guidelines on sheltering in place, advising residents to secure their homes—locking doors and windows and sealing off air vents—to protect against hazards like toxic clouds or flooded roads. Residents are encouraged to gather two weeks of supplies and use radio or social media for updates until the danger passes.  KISM

HEALTH NEWS

  • ByHeart recalled its baby formula after 13 infants were hospitalized with botulism—one case occurred locally. Parents are urged to dispose of any recalled cans and seek care if their infant shows signs like poor feeding or weak muscles.  FOX13

SPORTS NEWS

  • Yesterday, legendary coach Lenny Wilkens died at 88 as the Seahawks beat the Cardinals 44-22 with key plays from Jaxon Smith-Njigba and DeMarcus Lawrence, setting up their game against the Rams next Sunday. High school football teams in Whatcom County advanced to the state tournament and local soccer and college teams have scheduled matchups — school officials say more updates will follow — as regional sports heat up.  My Bellingham Now
  • Legendary basketball coach Lenny Wilkens died yesterday at age 88; he made nine All-Star games, coached Seattle to a 1979 title, and is honored by a statue outside Climate Pledge Arena. The Seahawks won their fourth straight game by beating the Arizona Cardinals 44 to 22 on Lumen Field, and six Whatcom County high school teams advanced to the state football tournament after key play in wins.  KISM
