COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bellingham closed its 20th annual photo competition awarding top winners and the City announced several events. Residents can attend an indoor recreation meeting Dec.10 at Bloedel Donovan Community Building, a holiday tree lighting Dec.6, a Lighted Bike Parade Dec.13, and a Santa 5K Dec.20 while applying for City advisory groups.  City of Bellingham

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Seattle’s National Weather Service issued a coastal flood advisory for western Whatcom and Skagit with up to 2 ft of water on shorelines Saturday, Dec. 6 from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. Drivers should take caution & note the Nooksack River in Ferndale may hit action level late next Wednesday.  KAFE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Bellingham will host a public meeting next Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bloedel Donovan Community Building (where it will unveil the master plan for the Civic Athletic Complex and seek feedback on future indoor recreation services).  KAFE
  • A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction on Wednesday to block a rule change that would cut Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood—used by nearly half of the state's patients—with the federal government having a week to appeal, according to Attorney General Nick Brown.  KAFE

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • This weekend, Whatcom County hosts holiday events. On Saturday, Dec. 6, the Bellingham Yacht Club will stage its Lighted Boat Parade on the bay (from the Cruise Terminal to Squalicum Harbor) while Lynden holds a lighted car parade at Fairway Shopping Center and local groups feature Christmas lights and tastings.  KAFE

  • The WWU volleyball team ended its season today after losing three sets to Fresno Pacific in the national tournament — they finished 19-7 with All-West Region honors for Devyn Oestreich and Delaney Speer.  My Bellingham Now
