COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Whatcom Land Trust accepted interim ownership of Cloud Mountain Farm Center and set nearly 20 acres under a conservation easement later this month — allowing community partners such as Twin Sisters Mobile Market to continue using the facilities as they plan for long-term ownership with the Whatcom Community Foundation.  KAFE
  • Whatcom County Public Works and Geosyntec will help residents complete water adjudication paperwork today from 3-5 p.m. at the Blaine Library. Visitors are encouraged to bring water rights records as additional *drop-in* events are planned for the new year.  KISM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Friday, Dec. 5, most WWU Operational Student Employees filed an intent with the state Public Employment Relations Commission to form a union. If HB 1570 passes, the workers will join the same union as their educational peers while the university plans new bargaining terms.  My Bellingham Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • An atmospheric river is moving into the region and will bring heavy rain through Friday, Dec. 12. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Whatcom and Skagit counties plus a wind advisory until 10:00 p.m. Monday in Bellingham and Lynden, with increased landslide risk in wildfire areas.  My Bellingham Now
