EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Nov. 19, Dairy Ambassadors Sarah Van Berkum and Maddie DeLange visited Lynden Christian first grade students to teach them about dairy farming, including a cow milking demonstration with Clover the Dairy Calf. Lynden Tribune
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tuesday night's heavy rains caused significant flooding and road closures in western Washington, affecting communities from Everett to areas near Bellingham. Gusty winds reaching up to 45 mph raised hazards, and officials warn more rain is expected through today and into early Friday. FOX13
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers sent a letter on Dec. 10 asking BP to explain how nearly 2,300 gallons of fuel leaked from the Olympic Pipeline during its nearly two-week shutdown. BP must respond by Jan. 8 as officials work on cleanup and safety measures — aiming to prevent spills. KISM
- ➤ Residents north of the Nooksack River in Everson are advised to leave as the river is predicted to crest above flood stage — officials will close Main Street and Emerson Road this evening. KAFE
- ➤ The Parks and Recreation department announced early Wednesday that Little Squalicum Pier is closed until further notice after large sinkholes formed at the entrance from high tides and wave action, and safety barriers and warning signs have been installed until repairs begin. 1170 KPUG

- ➤ Several Whatcom County schools, including Meridian, Blaine, Mount Baker, Nooksack Valley & Lummi Nation, have submitted a proposal to require private schools with 90 or more students to move up a classification to protect competitive balance; if approved, the change could affect dominant programs at Lynden Christian.
